If your business is dealing in second hand cars, you probably have an interest in cars yourself. Forget your business for a moment and pretend to be someone looking to buy, sell or deal in second hand cars.

 

What websites do you like the most and why? Do you like websites with an easy search facility? Do you like to see customer testimonials and reports about the performance of the cars? Do you like to see pictures of the cars on sale? What information do you like to see about the specific cars for sale? Do you like to see easy to use guides for buying cars? Do you like to see the price displayed clearly? Do you like to see different buying / finance options. Do you like to be able to request they find you a specific car they do not currently have in stock?

 

What do you dislike about websites? Do you hate it when they tell you all the good things but forget to tell you a significant defect? Is it off-putting when all the website does is provide a list of links to other websites that sell cars? Do you really want to have to phone or visit the showroom to find out if a car is suitable?

 

Everything you do must be for your customers’ benefit. So put yourself in your customers’ shoes and give them what they want. In most cases, they want information in an easy- to-find, easy-to-follow way that appeals to them.

 

If you only want to sell cars to mainly male dealers, the information you give and the way you give it will be different to selling cars to people who just want a trade in. The male car dealers are looking for boy-toys, scantily clad women and engine power. The trade-in crowd want practical information and a reliable car. Give them the information they want and lead them gently to making a purchase.

 

Never put your product first. Always put your customer first.

If you give your visitors something they find interesting and can interact with they will spend lots of time on your website, re-visit it again (repeat business!) and tell their friends about it. All of these things build up more traffic to your website. Not only that, but the Search Engines will recognise that your website is a good website just by the behaviour of your visitors. That means you are more likely to obtain a higher rank and that means only one thing – even more visitors.
